“I’ve already purchased tickets and made down payments” Amina revealed, not knowing how to feel about her friend’s response, “I thought it will be good for us to take a vacation”
“Why? “Why will you do that without asking me first?”
“Because I wanted it to be a surprise! I told you I had a surprise!”
“Well, I hate surprises. You should have asked me,” Okailey insisted.
“Since when did you start hating surpises”
“The point is, you should have asked me first. Is there any way you can get your money back?”
“Yes” Amina replied, “But of course, I am not going to do that” she snapped, “Why don’t you want to go?”
“Because you should have asked me. I’m not in the mood. I don’t want to take a vacation”
“Well, you’re hardly in the mood for anything lately. You’re always shooting down my ideas. You only work!”
“That’s not true”
“Of course It is. It’s been going on for a while now. I just haven’t said anything…”
“Well, maybe there’s nothing to take a break from; life is happening and you have to go with it, no needs for vacations” suddenly starting to feel upset which didn’t surprise Amina.
Okailey usually responded like this now— beneath her calm composure, she always seemed to be simmering, ready to burst. Amina had a fair idea what could be the source of her best friends touchiness, but she knew Okailey would deny it if she brought it up. And for about a year now, she had been bearing the burden of staying calm for the both of them.
But maybe, it’s time she said something because it couldn’t continue forever, “I think you’re still angry with Aeron” she finally voiced, “and you’re taking it out on everything else. It’s been over a year Okailey! He did you wrong, but you can’t let it overshadow everything in your life. You deserve better than that.., and”
“And what?” Okailey interrupted angrily, “what are you even talking about?” she said, but her eyes were already shiny with tears, “Who said any of this is about him?”
